About The Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife

Established in 1970, The Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife (FNPW) is the charity partner of national parks and wildlife services across Australia. Trees by FNPW and TFH

Australia's partner charity of national parks and wildlife services across the nation, The Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife, has teamed up with renowned blockchain charity Tokens for Humanity to give cryptocurrency users the ability to purchase NFTs that plant real-life trees with embedded geolocations to transparently show where their trees have been planted.

Trees by FNPW and TFH is an evolving open mint project, working with local artists and providing time-critical relief in response to ever-changing events such as Australia's recent floods. This means that the campaign is subject to change without notice.

Merge trees is the first campaign in a series which commemorates Ethereum's consensus model upgrade to a greener algorithm which has opened a new world of fundraising possibilities for nature-based charities such as FNPW. It supports efforts to rebuild recently flood-affected areas within Australia.

Each NFT represents a tree to be planted. Each tree planted not only helps to regenerate land and restore flood damaged land, it will sequester on average 2.75 tonnes of carbon over a 25-year life.

Where Metaverse Meets IRL

This first-of-its-kind NFT collection combines blockchain technology with charitable action, and merges physical and digital realities. NFT holders will have exclusive access to a token-gated impact dashboard that provides detailed information on the campaign, as well as view the real-time location of the trees they have helped plant using embedded geolocations. Additionally, limited edition trees will be released as Sandbox assets, which can be used within The Sandbox platform.

Australian Bushfire Recovery

Following the catastrophic bushfires in the summer of 2019 – 2020 FNPW developed a program to support the long journey the Australian people and the environment would take towards bushfire recovery. The Australian bush has developed unique and varied ways to recover after bushfires. Some ecosystems and habitats can be completely devastated by fire while others are only slightly damaged. The Bushfire Recovery Program supports natural restoration, and community-managed revegetation projects across Australia. Working in partnership with like-minded organisations and community groups, FNPW will support projects for seed collection and storage, growing plants in nurseries, planting trees in their forever homes, and learning and growing from our shared experiences. The program is currently working in the 2019-2020 bushfire impacted areas across Queensland (QLD), New South Wales (NSW), Victoria (Vic), & South Australia (SA).

Wildlife Heroes

Most Australian wildlife rescue and care is done by hardworking volunteers. In NSW alone, more than 5,500 people give their time, money and love to Australian animals in need. We call them WILDLIFE HEROES! This is a project managed by FNPW and designed to help and support Australia’s 10,000+ volunteer wildlife carers nationally. To date, funding for the project has been received through the NSW Government Environmental Trust in NSW, the Australian Government and FNPW donors and sponsors. Funding has gone to assisting the mental health of our Wildlife Heroes following the trauma of the Black Summer bushfires, and the establishment of Wildlife Friendly Vets, which provides financial and equipment support for vets that assist in the wildlife. Additional funding would allow the expansion of this program nationally.

Warddeken Mayh Project

At the centre of this project is the Mayh Monitoring Network, a long-term ecological monitoring program, established in 2017. The Network consists of 120 monitoring sites strategically located across the Warddeken IPA, which are sampled using remote sensing cameras. Despite the effects of COVID delays, during this project timeframe, Warddeken rangers have been able to resample 36 monitoring sites this field season, and are currently processing the 900,000 images collected, the remaining 24 sites will be sampled. The project contributes to regional efforts to understand and mitigate small and medium mammal declines across Northern Australia. The data from the monitoring network will form the bedrock for innovative recovery and conservation projects for mammals in the IPA.

About the Trees Being Planted

Images of areas requiring revegetation

Australia has recently experienced some of the worst flood conditions in decades, which have caused significant damage to the country's landscape and have disrupted replanting efforts from bushfire recovery programs. Flooding can have a devastating impact on the environment, as it can cause acute soil and tree changes due to saturated and inundated soil conditions, physically knock over trees, and lead to chronic problems associated with a changing environment and modified tree reactivity (Coder, 1994).

To help restore and regenerate damaged ecosystems, the trees funded through this campaign will be planted in flood-affected areas across Australia. Join us in supporting efforts to rebuild and protect the environment through the purchase and planting of these trees.

Plant a Tree for Me!

The planted trees will be part of the Plant a Tree for Me initiative, launched in 2015 by the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife. This ambitious conservation program aims to protect and grow natural habitats, which are essential for the survival of our endangered species. Over the past 200 years, more than 75% of Australia's native vegetation has been destroyed or degraded, causing serious impacts on native animals and threatening their survival. By participating in this initiative, you can help restore and protect the country's diverse range of species and make a positive impact on the environment. Read more.

The Road to 1,000,000 by 2025

The Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife has an ambitious goal to plant 1,000,000 new trees by 2025. This campaign is expected to contribute to that goal by planting an additional 100,000 trees, all of which will serve as everlasting commemorations of the Merge and a reminder of the significant milestone this represents for the planet and the community. These trees will be tagged with location information, allowing you to track their progress and see the positive impact they are making on the environment.
